Welcome to the Friends of Thorpe Light Railway, an organisation set up to restore and operate the 15 inch gauge Thorpe Light Railway.
The pages here outline the railways history, events and allow you to get involved.

By becoming a friend of the Thorpe Light Railway, you will be entitled to free event day travel, the chance to get involved on site and receive a twice-yearly newsletter detailing activities and progress at the railway.

Please note that the railway is a private location and access is only allowed on event days via the Friends of Thorpe Light Railway.

The railway is located South of Whorlton Village near Barnard Castle over the chain bridge. The post code is DL12 8XDmap

      Our Railway carriages have moved from The National Railway museum to a local training centre in Newton Aycliffe, over the next few years the carriages will be worked on by local students whilst studying engineering. Thanks to all who moved the carriages on the morning of the move
